Brains: The Mind As Matter (Art Exhibit)

The Wellcome Collection is an art venue which explores the connections between medicine, life and art in the past, present and future. It is located in London, and has recently been running an exhibition titled – “Brains : the mind as matter”.

‘Brains’ asks not what brains do to us, but what we have done to brains, focusing on the bodily presence of the organ rather than investigating the neuroscience of the mind.

Our work on understanding the brain is perhaps one of the deepest and hardest questions we have tried to answer in biology and its history is of deep importance. It also possesses numerous similarity with genetic engineering – standing on interesting ethical ground (being simultaneously very important and potentially dangerous) as well as invoking visceral feelings of unease.

Check our the image galleries on the official website if you can’t make it to the exhibition yourself. Alternatively check out a great article by “The Curious Neuron” about the exhibition. Finally, I’ve embedded the trailer video for the exhibition below.
